On November 25, 1982, the deceased,partially nude body of Ruth Elizabeth Bettis was found in a pasture near Sprinkle Cut Road, east of Dessau Road in Travis County.

Ruth had been sexually assaulted and shot to death. Ruth was a 19 year old college student and worked part-time at “Sugar’s ,a well-known “Gentleman’s club”, in Austin. She was last seen the night of November 24th, leaving the club after she finished her shift. Witnesses saw Ruth get into her car with an unknown man described as a Black male. Ruth’s car, a light blue,1969 Volkswagen Type I “Beetle”, was not found near her body, but was located a short distance away.
Despite an intensive investigation by the Travis County Sheriff’s office and the Texas Rangers, this case remains unsolved.
