Seventy three year old Ruth T. Doss was known by those around her to be a very helpful, giving woman. Eager to help those less fortunate, Ruth would often find work to be done around her home, and hire someone who needed the money to complete it, as well as often giving rides to people in her truck. Ruth’s son, David, fears that his mother’s kindness and giving spirit is what may have lead to her disappearance in 1999.

On June 18, 1999, Ruth told her daughter and sister that she had plans to meet a man named George, as well as chaplain, at the Denny’s restaurant on 51st Avenue and Indian School Road, in Phoenix, Arizona. When David hadn’t heard from Ruth for the rest of the day, as she typically called him several times a day, he became concerned, and drove himself to the Denny’s to search for her. Unable to find his mother, David scanned the parking lot, where he discovered her 1997 Dodge Dakota extended pick up truck. To this day, it is unclear whether or not Ruth actually made it to the restaurant, but her last official siting was at her apartment that Friday morning at 6am, located at the 100 block of East Royal Palm Road.

When police became involved in Ruth’s disappearance, they wanted to locate the mysterious “George” whom she was meeting for breakfast. According to her friends and family, they believed that George may have been a man that she met at a halfway house. It was known that Ruth had made another friend at this halfway house, along with a handful of acquaintances. However, it is unclear exactly what her involvement with the halfway house was.

it was later determined that Ruth was meeting George R. Bogart, a 57 year old Phoenix man. A search was put out for George Bogart, with newspapers listing his description, picture, and car with exact license plate number. It wouldn’t be until George enrolled himself in a drug and alcohol abuse program at St. Luke’s Medical Center, that he was found. The doctor treating George recognized his name and face from the news, and urged him to speak to police. George was spoken to and questioned by authorities, but he was never arrested. Sadly, the case stopped here. Ruth Doss has never been found, and it is unknown whatever happened to George Bogart, or what his involvement in Ruth’s disappearance might have been, if any. It’s also unclear exactly who the chaplain was, that was also supposedly meeting them, or if Ruth ever made it to Denny’s at all.

If alive today, Ruth would be 97 years old. When she was last seen, she was described as standing at 5’8”, weighing 105 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. Ruth wore glasses, and had two scars above both of her knees where implants were placed. She was wearing a purple shirt and either green or blue pants, and carrying a grey purse.ews, and urged him to speak
